CLIENT: YUKOS OIL COMPANY

Task: To resist the public slander campaign launched by the international green-mailer and raider Kenneth Dart against the oil company in 1998-1999.

Strategy and tactics: Together with the oil company’s top-management, PR and legal department work to develop key messages and devise crisis management plan. Setting up 24-hours bi-lingual hot-line to immediately respond to all media and stakeholders’ queries. Constant monitoring of the situation and providing answers and feedback to stakeholders via hot-line, web-site and social networks. Weekly press events with targeted pool of journalists. On-demand conference call with the company’s senior management and international investment community.

Result: As a result of this united effort the negative perception that the raider tried to create was destroyed. The company drastically improved its communication practices to ensure all the stakeholders are treated fairly and receive the first-hand information on the regular basis. Yukos oil company build up its reputation as the most transparent and efficient in the Russian market.
